- Boot Device
- Definition:Determining the Boot Sequence and Medium
With the selection of boot devices, the actual boot medium (e.g. hard drive or DVD drive) is chosen along with the sequence when several boot devices are defined.
- Cloud Computing
- Definition:Provides IT resources on the basis of virtualisation
Cloud computing encompasses on-demand infrastructure (CPU, storage, network) and on-demand software (operating systems, applications, middleware, management and development tools), dynamically adapted to the respective demands of business processes. This also includes the ability to operate and manage entire processes.
- CPU
- Abbreviation:Processor Core (Central Processing Unit)
The CPU is the core of a computer or server. It handles all calculations and control operations. The processor core is the central component of a microprocessor consisting at least of the arithmetic logical unit (ALU), the arithmetic registers and the logical circuits required for the transportation of data and for peripherals. Virtual-Core® users have control over CPU assignment in order to optimise resource management. Notice: This option is dependent on the chosen scope of services, and is not generally available in all Virtual-Core environments.
- Data Center
- Definition:
A co-location data center is a central data processing site outside the own company. Own IT systems can be operated here in the leased facilities.
- Deactivated vServer
- Definition:Collection Point for Deactivated Servers
When a vServer is deactivated, it is automatically removed from the vRack and moved to the "Deactivated vServer" area. Here vServers can be mothballed without resources being reserved for them.
- Drag & Drop
- Definition:Moving a vServer via Drag & Drop
In the Virtual-Core administration interface, vServers can be moved to any vRack using drag & drop. In order to do so, the icon of the respective vServer is dragged to the desired vRack icon in the Navigator.
- Hypervisor
- Definition:
A hypervisor is a virtualisation software that creates an environment for virtual machines.
- IaaS
- Acronym:Infrastructure-as-a-Service
Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) is one possible form of cloud computing. The service provides virtual infrastructure components through an IT service provider depending on demand. This means the user is provided with all infrastructure components such as servers, computing power, network capacities, communication devices, storage, archiving and backup systems as well as other components of the data center and network infrastructure.
- IPv6
- Abbreviation:Internet Protocol Version 6
Internet Protocol Version 6 is the successor of version 4 of the internet protocol, which is currently still dominant on the internet. Internet protocols regulate data addressing. IPv6 is intended to eliminate the shortage of addresses.
- ISO Image
- Definition:
An ISO image is a computer file that contains a 1:1 image of a CD or DVD. The file system is copied without changes when the ISO image is created, so that rights and other metadata remain unaltered.
